When we received the Mate 9 Pro we thought that a mistake has been made. The design proved to be similar at first sight to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The curved edged design that the Samsung Galaxy Edge models are known for are also apparent for the Mate 9 Pro. Difference is immediately felt when we held the device in our hands. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the Mate 9 Pro felt really light and its full metal body structure felt premium in our grasps. The fingerprint sensor that is ergonomically placed below the screen also serves as a home button. Even as we have mentioned how well the Mate 9 was made to feel in our hands (read our Mate 9 review here), the Mate 9 Pro tops the experience we had with the former. With dimensions at 152 x 75 x 7.5 mm, it is smaller compared to the Mate 9 hence making it far easier to retrieve it from your pocket and into your hands. Ohh and did we mention already that it has a gorgeous bezel-less display for its side edges?
Unlike the Mate 9, the Mate 9 Pro sports a sparkling Quad HD display. We reviewed the Mate 9 and were surprised with its amazing display with its LCD 1080p screen and how we couldn’t tell the difference between a Quad HD and a 1080p display. But when we turned on the Mate 9 Pro’s display, its supernatural crisp and deep shark saturations immediately converted us into a believer! We were convinced that this has got to be the most gorgeous displays we’ve ever seen on a smartphone. With a screen size at 5.5 inches, the Mate 9 Pro rewards us with effortless single handed navigation. No stretches were required by our thumbs to select options on the top of the screen. We first had our doubts before we used The Mate 9 Pro, thinking that the differences would be non significant. We were proven wrong.
Its performance fares better than the Mate 9 workhorse, although both phones run on the same superior Kirin 960 chipset. The Mate 9 Pro gives ultimate performance with a 5.5inch screen but a more immersive gaming experience with the AMOLED screen that brings out the deeper darks. Your lag days are gone with Huawei’s cutting-edge Machine Learning Algorithm. This algorithm prioritises CPU, RAM and ROM resources based on user anticipation. Not to mention gaming with lag-free environments makes the Mate 9 Pro one of the best there is out there. With the beast of a GPU, the Mali-G71 octa-core GPU coupled with the Vulcan API takes gaming to a seamless possibility, producing double the frame rate.
4) Battery Life
Power users all over the world can now have a true mate. The Mate 9 Pro’s 4000mAH battery grants endurance for your constant snapchats and instagram stories. The Mate 9 can get you through an entire day of Facebook stalking and pinterest browsing without having your battery life go below 30%.
When we reviewed the Mate 9’s camera, we had lots of praises for its ingenuity. Now with the Mate 9 Pro in our hands, taking pictures have become a fun experience with all the same qualities of the Mate 9. The camera was fast, worked beautifully under low light and most of all, pictures were pretty realistic with its Quad HD resolution and AMOLED display. It’s 2nd generation Leica dual lenses combines a 12MP RGB sensor and 20MP monochrome sensor to give you that sharp, vivid picture whenever you hit the shutter.
We started out as a non-believer but now that we have seen it, touched it and used it - there’s no denying that our champion in this category has got to be Huawei Mate 9 Pro.
